Privacy Policy

Updated 5/5/2018

I value your privacy.

The only information I collect is information that you provide freely via the contact form, subscription form, or comments placed on this site.

In addition, to prevent spam, a quick comparison of your data to that of known spammers is conducted by a third party, CleanTalk. During this comparison and transmission, your data may be transmitted through the US, Canada, or other countries. CleanTalk may store your data temporarily on their servers. This temporary storage allows me to locate falsely flagged spam or not-spam comments and correct the processing so that future analysis will be more accurate. Sadly, sites like mine receive hundreds of spam attacks each day. Without this protection the site would become unusable. All parties in this transaction are GDPR compliant and take your privacy very seriously. No marketing is done through this transaction and CleanTalk does not use your data to contact you. The origin of spam comments will be flagged and added to their database, however. This is done in compliance with GDPR and constitutes a legal use of the data in order to secure my site and others from know attackers.

All data transmitted to or from my website is transferred using SSL, an encryption technology designed to protect your data in transit.

My site is protected by aggressive anti-hacking software intended to protect both your privacy and the integrity of the site.

I collect your email address so that I can send you infrequent updates about what is going on in my world. Want to be removed from this list? Click unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter. These email addresses are stored on my website and are processed by my website. They are not sent to any third party for processing other than the above noted check to verify that the person signing up is a real person and not a spambot.

In addition, the newsletters do send a message back to my website when they are opened. This helps me to better design future content.

To allow for discussion, you have the opportunity to post comments on this website. The information collected includes your name, email address, ip address, and your comments. By their nature, comments are stored on the site and publicly available. Only your name and comment are available to the public. As the administrator of the site, I have access to your email so that I can contact you if needed. In addition, you have the ability to subscribe to comments submitted to the site. Your email address would be used to send you those notifications. If you ever wish to have your comments removed, send me a quick note through the contact form and I’ll remove them.

Contact Form

My contact form requests your name, email address, the subject and message that you wish to send me. Your IP address is also captured by the system. This information is checked for spam as noted above and then transmitted to me via email. It is not stored on my website. During that transmission, the data will be sent through normal email channels.

This site is not intended to be used by anyone under the age of 16 without parental consent.

Website Activity Tracking

My hosting company does track basic data on those who access the site. The data stored in this manner is not traceable back to any individual and is deliberately generalized. It provides me with information related to the country of origin of site visitors, what browser they are using, and how long they stayed on the site.

This tracking does not include any personal information other than the IP address used to access the site.

Use of Cookies

I use cookies on this Site to personalize the Site. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a Web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you. One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. For example, if you personalize a web page, or navigate within a site, a cookie helps the site to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of delivering relevant content, eases site navigation, and so on. When you return to the Web site, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the site’s features that you customized.

Web beacons, also known as clear gif technology, or action tags, may be used to assist in delivering the cookie. This technology is a tool used to compile aggregated statistics about web site usage, such as how many visitors clicked on key elements (such as links or graphics) on a Web page, blog or a newsletter. I may share aggregated site statistics with partner companies who have provided customization software for use on the site. No private or personal information is transferred in this way.

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Many Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of this or other Web sites you visit.

Changes to this Statement

I may occasionally update this privacy statement. When I do, I will also revise the “last updated” date at the top of the privacy statement. I encourage you to periodically review this privacy statement to stay informed about how I am helping to protect the personal information I collect. Your continued use of the service constitutes your agreement to this privacy statement and any updates.

A Note to International Users

By providing your information to the Site, you are consenting to the transfer of your information to the United States for processing and maintenance in accordance with this Privacy Notice. You are also consenting to the application of Canadian law in all matters concerning the Site.
